About Me
My name is Hashima Watts, I’m a fashion designer & long-time artisan living
in Houston, TX.
I’ve been making handmade things since I was about 7 years old. I often
recall the excitement of catching the bus to pottery class with my big sis, embroidering
flowers with my mini embroidery hoop, or sewing pants and tops for my friends
and I as a teen.
MY EXPERIENCE WITH DYEING FABRICS
My introduction to fabric dyeing was in 2009 during a trip to Trinidad
& Tobago where I went for a 30-day intensive Fashion Design Workshop.
I fell in love with the richness and depth of color that comes from the hand dyeing process, along with the unpredictability of the results. My favorite part
of fabric dyeing is in the REVEAL. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing the result unfold before my eyes.
INSPIRATION FOR DESIGNS
I draw inspiration from
many different places, from cultures around the world to elements in architecture. However, my favorite source of inspiration is from Allah’s
creation. From the color palettes of flowers, birds, and fish, to the beautiful ombre of sunrises & sunsets.
My goal is to create pieces that are eccentric, dramatic, whimsical, bold, colorful, and vibrant.
I hope my designs make you feel as beautiful as you are!
